Events

In addition to the mountain challenge, we've already run a number of fundraising events, and there's more on the way to help us reach our target. This page will continue to update with the latest events.

June 24th/25th - Did the Mountain Challenge. You proberbly want to know a little more, so you can read the whole thing here, and also enjoy the pictures.

June 10th - Camberley Rotaract took part in a sponsored swim event run by Fleet Rotary. Despite there being no mountains in the pool, all seven members of the team put their money towards the Mountain Challenge fund for Sight Savers International. Thanks Camberley!

May 23rd - SPEED DATING! We ran a Speed Dating event in Felixstowe for 18-30 year olds.

Colchester Party Games - 21/6/06

Colchester Rotaract - Taking the biscuit
Deben On Tour hits Colchester. If there's one thing Deben can do, it's being silly. We've had plenty of practice. So we decided to inflict our level of sanity onto Colchester Rotaract. It's not that they can't be silly themselves... but they literaly had no idea what was going to be happening. The stated aim of the evening was that when asked the next day what they'd done that evening, they'd go 'umm... well....'. Oh, and they're sending us a cheque for Sight Savers because of it.
Casino Night with Rushden - 27/5/06
We joined forces with Rushden Rotaract to run a casino night in their neck of the woods (between Huntingdon and Kettering). A great evening, with the Deben crew running blackjack, poker and roulette tables. A good number of Rotarians and Rotaractors were fleesed for their money.

Rotary Bowling - 22/5/06

Rotarians - Bowling Blind
For our 10-pin bowling night, we invited Rotarians from the local clubs to come along for a fun social get together. Obviously we fleesed them for a bit of money while we were about it, bu everyone seemed to enjoy it so that was ok. As a nod towards the Sight Savers chartiy, we blindfolded everyone for the 5th ball of the game. Not too many strikes for that one...
Training Walk in the Lakes - 17/4/06 - 21/4/06

Above the snowline on Helvellyn
(OK, so this one wasn't a fundrasing event, but we thought it worth including anyway). Suffolk is not known for it's mountains, so as we were up in the Lake District for the Rotaract conference (see below) we decided to take the week off and practice walking. We even gave Helvellen a go - a fairly obvious idea as it's one of the ones we'll be doing for real.

Presentation to RGBI at National Conference - 16/4/06
This was a fantastic weekend. See the pictures and writeup. From a Mountain Challenge point of view, we gave a presentation to over 100 Rotaractors and Rotarians about the project and the Rotaract team. Thanks to all those who applauded our efforts - We hope you found it enlightening. And thanks to those who dropped £100 in the buckets. It was also useful to meet up with several clubs who have agreed to run fundraising events for us. Excellent!
Stop Press: The Conference Crew have done their final accounts, and it seems the conference raised a lot more money than planned. Maybe they had a cut from the bar? Either way - more than £500 has been donated from the conference to our Sight Savers fund. There really ain't no mountain high enough!

Superhero Charity Pub Crawl - 11/3/06

Rotaract - Raising money with spandex
We really enjoyed our first Rotaract Superheroes Fancy Dress Pub Crawl around Ipswich. Here's some of our pictures. If anyone saw us out and about - easily spotted in the bright coloured cosutmes of Superman, Spiderman, Supergirl, Batman & Robin, and the slightly less coloured Zorro. If you saw us, and have pictures, please email them to us at mountainchallenge@debenrotaract.org.uk so we can add the best ones!
Christmas Cheer - 23/12/05
Our first fundraising effort was an ebay auction (now closed). To buy what money usualy can't buy: Christmas Cheer. Specificly, a short video of Deben Rotaractors cheering. OK, we admit it, this was more of a publicity stunt than a fundraiser. But we had fun making the video anyway. (Still available for a £5 donation - contact us!).

Hurrahhh for Rotaract!

If you're based near Ipswich and would like to join us in this, or our other activities, just visit the Deben website and get in touch - we'd love to hear from you.
